As you gain the top, the trail opens to impressive views across the southern slopes of Kilimanjaro, with the glaciers and upper reaches of Kibo becoming increasingly prominent.

After crossing the Barranco Wall, the route continues through a rugged landscape of ridges and shallow valleys before descending toward Karanga Valley. The trail then rises again to Karanga Camp, where a lunch break provides an important opportunity to eat, drink, and recover. From Karanga, the surroundings become noticeably more barren as you leave the last greener sections of the mountain behind and continue toward Barafu.
